Prerequisites: one year of introductory work in chemistry including organic nomenclature e.g. CHEM 205, CHEM 206; or CHEM 215, CHEM 216, and any organic; or consent of instructor. Recommended: CHEM 345
Overview of the chemistry and properties of the natural environment, and the effects of human activities thereon. Topics include the behavior of environmental pollutants in air, water, sediments/soils and their potential biological impacts; as well as a discussion of their sources and treatment. Concurrent laboratory studies of common methods used in environmental analyses. Four hours lecture and three hours laboratory. Materials fee required.
